FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today it has been ranked as seventh among the top twelve Green-IT Organizations by IDG's Computerworld magazine. The publication identified Northrop Grumman as implementing smart, efficient strategies to achieve "green-IT." Seventy organizations participated in the evaluation. This year's ranking is an improvement over last year, when Northrop Grumman ranked 11th.

Some of Northrop Grumman's green-IT initiatives that factored into the 2011 rating included an enterprise data center migration project, consolidating company data centers; implementation of an Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to ensure that the company only deploys gold- and silver-rated electronic equipment company-wide; and the launch of a program to manage, measure and reduce PC energy consumption during periods of non use.
