Covisint, a Compuware Company, Announces Top Three PQRS Misconceptions -- and the Reality Behind Each

The Proof: Covisint Customers With Valid Submissions Engaged With CMS to Receive More Than $9 Million for 2010

DETROIT, Nov. 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Covisint, a Compuware (Nasdaq:CPWR) company, today announced the top three PQRS misconceptions that have unnecessarily prevented many healthcare delivery organizations from obtaining CMS incentive dollars. Covisint -- last year's PQRS submissions leader -- also is providing the remedies for each of these three misconceptions as follows:

  1. MU and PQRS incentives can't be obtained in the same year. Both incentives are available concurrently this year;
  2. It's difficult and time-consuming. With Covisint, the PQRS submission process is often measured in hours, not days, and providers can submit information on as few as only 30 patients; and,
  3. CMS just won't pay. Untrue. Submission in accordance with CMS regulations results in payment. For 2010, more than 6,800 providers participating in PQRS through Covisint received their payments, estimated to be more than $9 million in earned bonuses.

"The PQRS perception is dramatically different than the reality, and the reality is that our customers find the incentive payment is well-worth the effort," said Dr. John Haughton, Covisint Chief Medical Information Officer. "Covisint has helped more physicians, practices and entire healthcare systems easily engage with CMS to obtain more PQRS incentives than any other solution provider. We're constantly hearing comments on how easy and quick the process is with our Covisint DocSite PQRS solution, including comments such as 'convenient, timely, accurate and user-friendly with great customer service.'"

PQRS submissions and Covisint's DocSite PQRS solution

Covisint is accepting PQRS (Physician Quality Reporting System -- formerly called PQRI) submissions at http://www.covisint.com/web/guest/healthcare/docsitepqri. The PQRS process enables physicians, physician practices and large healthcare systems to qualify for financial incentives by submitting specific data on Medicare Part B fee for service patients. The PQRS submission requirements -- formerly called PQRI -- have recently been updated, and Covisint has incorporated all the changes required for 2011 submissions while maintaining the solution's ease of use.

For 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) will pay eligible providers a financial incentive of one percent of their total allowed charges for care provided to Medicare Part B fee-for-service patients. Covisint provides a proven, easy-to-use submission process for all eligible providers ranging from single-physician practices to large, multi-specialty groups to hospitals and can accommodate both electronic and paper data collection methods.

Covisint drives care coordination with its performance-based care solution -- a trusted healthcare platform that delivers actionable information at the point of care and manages secure communications across care communities. By enabling patient information to be harnessed, measured and securely shared at the individual and population level, performance-based care supports the most technologically sophisticated HIE down to the paper-based single provider in achieving immediate value. This assists healthcare providers in improving care outcomes, patient communication among care teams and the management of chronic conditions, while also reducing administrative costs and avoidable readmissions.
