Acacia Communications Named a Massachusetts Economic Impact Winner

Recognized for Outstanding Contribution to the State's Economy

MAYNARD, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 21, 2011) - Acacia Communications, a fast-growing developer of optical networking technology and products, today announced that the company has been named a winner of MassEcon's annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award. A much respected and highly competitive distinction, the program is currently in its eighth year. Winners will be honored during a ceremony tomorrow at the Seaport Hotel in Boston, where Governor Deval Patrick will serve as the featured speaker.

"The Commonwealth's world-renowned innovation economy is driven by the Team Massachusetts award winners and companies like them across the state," said Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki. "The Patrick-Murray Administration is grateful for the investment firms like Acacia Communications are making in our workers and our state's long-term prosperity."

Founded in June 2009 by an internationally recognized team of executives and engineers, Acacia Communications is based in the Mill Building in Maynard that once served as global headquarters for legendary innovator Digital Equipment Corporation. Already 50 employees strong, Acacia Communications plans to expand its staff to 100 in 2012. To accommodate its growth, the company is expanding from its initial 2,500 square feet to 25,000 square feet, comprising offices, state-of-the-art research and development, and test/assembly facilities. Acacia Communications will unveil its highly anticipated products in 2012.

Acacia Communications is a Silver winner for the Central Massachusetts region. The winning companies were selected in September after presentations by senior executives to a judging panel, including Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki, preceded by site visits by the judging team. During their remarks, Acacia Communications executives shared plans for job growth, facility expansion, investment and community involvement since January 1, 2010.

"We are honored to have been chosen as a MassEcon winner," said Acacia Communications President and CEO Raj Shanmugaraj. "As we build our organization with world-class talent we are able to leverage the innovation environment in Massachusetts as well as the considerable expertise in relevant technologies that are available here. We are a global company supplying to customers all over the world and being headquartered in one of the world's leading technology centers provides us with a real competitive edge."
