C-RAD AB: First installation in Germany

Press release 2011-12-09

A first installation in Germany of C-RAD Catalyst™ system

C-RAD AB with its four fully owned subsidiaries are all active in the field of radiation therapy. The first C-RAD Catalyst™ system in Germany has successfully been installed at Klinik und Poliklinik für Strahlentherapie at Universitätsklinikum Essen.

With the introduction of the Catalyst™ system C-RAD has launched a solution for use throughout the whole radiation treatment chain. The system is offering improved precision, increased safety and efficiency to be used both before and during the radiation therapy treatment of patients with cancer. The system is working  in real time and is equipped with unique features with inter activity and newly developed non rigid algorithms.

An agreement was last October signed with Universitätsklinikum Essen. The C-RAD Catalyst has been installed at a linac from the US company TomoTherapy. The system will first be used to evaluate potential time savings when treating patients in the Head&Neck, Thorac, Pelvis and Extremity regions. After that the system will be used for respiratory gating on lever and lung patients. A second system will eventually be installed at the CT machine.

PD Dr. Lüdemann, Chief Medical Physicist University Hospital Essen:

“We are looking forward to implement the C-RAD Catalyst system in our workflow at the TomoTherapy machine. Within a first study we want to evaluate the accuracy and use the Catalyst for patient positioning.

The advantages are reduction of delivered dose for patient set up with Megavoltage CT as well as increasing the patient comfort by reducing the required time for positioning.”

Erik Hedlund, CEO, C-RAD AB:

"C-RAD is very proud to announce the first delivery of a Catalyst system to the one of the major radiation therapy clinics in Europe. Universitätsklinikum Essen will be an important reference site for further activities especially in Germany."
