JDSU Complements Wireless Test Portfolio With Acquisition of Dyaptive Systems

Rapid Adoption of Smart Devices and High-Bandwidth Applications Increases Need for Network Capacity Testing to Ensure Quality of End-User Experience

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - Jan 5, 2012) - JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) today announced that it has acquired Dyaptive Systems, a Vancouver, BC-based provider of capacity test solutions for 2G, 3G and 4G wireless networks. Dyaptive test solutions support network capacity planning and quality performance by emulating thousands of mobile devices precisely as consumers use them to post videos, photos, stream TV shows and movies, and video chat with friends. Dyaptive's products address a high-growth segment of the communications test market and generated revenue in the high single-digit millions during the trailing 12-month period. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

With mass adoption of mobile devices, wireless equipment manufacturers and service providers need network performance visibility that extends to the end user experience. Dyaptive provides subscriber emulation systems for wireless technologies, including emerging long term evolution (LTE)/4G being deployed by service providers worldwide. These solutions emulate high-bandwidth applications, such as streaming video across multiple wireless devices, to ensure quality performance for service providers and their customers.

"Dyaptive's portfolio complements JDSU's expansive set of wireless test tools, software and services, extending from the lab to the field and all the way to the end user experience," said David Heard, president of JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "JDSU's focus on mobile service assurance is a key element of our growth strategy as dependence on wireless devices at home, work and play continues to explode worldwide."

Unlike other offerings that require racks of stripped down mobile devices, limiting the number of devices that can be emulated and the real-world scenarios that can be tested, Dyaptive offers a software-defined, radio-based solution that cost-effectively scales to thousands of application-loaded mobile devices. The solution yields critical information used to make intelligent decisions on managing network traffic. For example, at a rock concert with thousands of mobile phone users clustered in a high concentration, a number of users may try to stream video on their smart devices while others are sending pictures. By employing Dyaptive's emulation testing, a service provider would be able to prioritize and manage this high-bandwidth traffic flow to maximize network efficiency, while continuing to provide its customers with a high-quality experience.

"JDSU shares our commitment to customer service and technology innovation, and has the extensive global reach to enable further growth in established and emerging wireless markets," said Joe Sutherland, president and CEO of Dyaptive. "We believe this combination is a win-win for our customers and our employees."

JDSU plans to retain Dyaptive's approximately 40 employees as well as its offices in Vancouver, BC.

This acquisition expands JDSU's leading communications test position in LTE trials and deployments by extending network testing in the labs and field to devices and applications. JDSU has announced LTE engagements with customers around the world and has won recognition for its wireless test solutions from Internet Telephony, Frost & Sullivan and Informa.
