NORCROSS, Ga., Jan. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EasyLink Services International Corporation ("EasyLink" or "Company") (Nasdaq:ESIC) (www.easylink.com), a global provider of comprehensive messaging services and e-commerce solutions, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("PTO") has confirmed the patentability of all claims in EasyLink's U.S. Patent No. 5,872,640 ("the '640 patent").
In September 2011, the PTO also confirmed the patentability of EasyLink's U.S. Patent No. 7,804,823 ("the '823 Patent") in a separate reexamination proceeding. These two patents have been asserted in a patent infringement lawsuit against j2 Global Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:JCOM), which was filed by EasyLink's subsidiary, Xpedite Systems, LLC.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, alleges that j2 Global infringes the '640 patent, entitled "Facsimile Form Generation System", and the '823 Patent, entitled "Systems and Methods for Communicating Documents Via an Autonomous Multi-Function Peripheral Device." EasyLink is seeking monetary damages for past infringement and injunctive relief prohibiting j2 Global from continuing to infringe the patents.
