Reconstruction of Herring-Butler Bridge Made Possible by Funding From Government of Canada

SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that Club de motoneige Harfang de l'Estrie has been granted funding from the Government of Canada to restore an infrastructure that provides access to snowmobiling trails.

"Our government's funding of this project is aimed at helping to bolster the drawing power of Quebec communities in order to promote the growth of the winter tourism industry and maintain jobs connected with the sector," said Minister Lebel.

Located on the Trans-Québec 55 trail, Herring-Butler bridge provides access to snowmobiling and quad trails in the Sherbrooke region and in the regional county municipalities of Haut-Saint-François and Val-Saint-François, crucial routes for users wishing to cross through the Eastern Townships. Club de motoneige Harfang de l'Estrie has been overseeing the project to rebuild the infrastructure, which was destroyed in an October 2010 flood.

This $80,000 non-repayable contribution has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program, an initiative whose objectives include strengthening the tourism offering in Quebec's regions.
