PLANTATION, Fla., Feb. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Always in style, DHL is returning for the eleventh straight season as the Official Logistics Provider of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2012 Collections and is partnering with LIM College to promote young talent by sponsoring an online design contest.

LIM College visual merchandising students, under the direction of Visual Merchandising Chair Eric Feigenbaum and award-winning designer and Associate Chair Marjorie Lee Woo, transformed DHL branded packing and shipping materials into "couture" wear. Bubble wrap, packing tape and cardboard morphed into gowns, cocktail dresses, hats and even an airplane fascinator. The four student designers were: Emily Acle, Carinne Cusanelli, Samantha Scopo and Vinessa Soluri.

The public voted for their favorite design in the DHL "couture" collection at http://www.zangzing.com/limdhlcontest/lim-college-fashion-contest">http://www.zangzing.com/limdhlcontest/lim-college-fashion-contest from Feb. 3 to Feb. 6. The two winning designs, created by Soluri and Cusanelli – will be featured at the DHL space in the Event Lobby during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Damrosch Park.

"Hands-on engagement with the fashion industry is an invaluable part of a LIM College education, and this collaboration really exemplifies that," said LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse.

Visitors to the DHL space at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week can select DHL Fashion accessories, also created by LIM College students, and then have their photograph taken with the DHL branded mannequins on a simulated fashion runway. The photographs will be taken by LIM College students under the direction of LIM College professor and award-winning fashion photographer Michael Creagh.

Along with supporting up-and-coming fashion industry students, DHL also is launching a new end-to-end solution for established designers and retailers looking to quickly expand to new markets in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America or to build their brand online. Fashion retailers can turn to DHL for a broad range of services including the delivery of samples to designers for immediate review, sourcing for production, shipping, secure warehousing and distribution to the retail floor or online order fulfillment.

"This new comprehensive service encompasses the capabilities of DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Supply Chain and DHL Global Mail, providing flexible solutions that can help our customers grow their business with speed and ease," said Shawn Boyd, Executive Vice President, DHL Sales for the Americas.

Solutions developed by DHL for the fashion industry take advantage of continuous operational enhancements and the extensive global network of DHL. Additional flights added in the past year enable customers operating in Asia Pacific markets to benefit from later pick-up times and faster deliveries, providing the best standard of service in the industry.

Designers like COLCCI, a leading Brazilian fashion powerhouse of high-end clothing, accessories and footwear, entrust DHL with the delivery of their collections. "COLCCI has been a DHL partner for more than seven years. From an envelope containing international bank documents to sample packages going to our distributors or trade show material, DHL gets everything delivered at the right time and to the right place," said Judite Padoan, international director for the company in Brazil, adding that speed and accuracy are a priority since COLCCI collections can include up to 1,800 items.

"With its experience in the fashion industry as well as logistics expertise, DHL is helping us achieve our goal of increasing the international reach of COLCCI around the world," added Padoan.
