President Barack Obama Endorses Congressman John Conyers, Jr.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- President Barack Obama has endorsed Congressman John Conyers, Jr. in the newly drawn, 13th Congressional District for his re-election.

"Congressman John Conyers, Jr. is a tireless champion for all of South Eastern Michigan's working families, especially the many struggling to get by," said President Obama. "That is why we need his dedicated efforts back in Congress to continue the fight with me to bring real jobs to the greater Metro Detroit area and our nation. I need you to cast your vote for Congressman John Conyers, Jr. in the August Democratic Congressional Primary."

With the 13th Congressional District being in one of the most economically struggling areas of the country, Conyers is focusing his campaign on the economic issues facing the families of Metro Detroit. The endorsement is a clear signal that the President values his partnership in the fight for jobs.

"I am extremely humbled by President Obama's endorsement," Conyers said. "After a campaign focused on economic development and job creation, my first task back in Congress will be to work with the President and other members of Congress to get our economy back on the right track."

"Republicans want to continue their agenda of working to take us back to the failed policies of the past," Obama said. "We cannot let them succeed, and that's why we all need to work hard to get a real "Pro-jobs Champion," like Congressman John Conyers, Jr. re-elected to keep Metro Detroit and the country moving in a job growth direction."

Rep. Conyers is the second-most senior member of the House, dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, former chairman of the House Committee on Government Operations (currently named Oversight and Government Reform) and former chairman of the pivotal House Judiciary Committee where he now serves as its Ranking Member.

John Conyers, Jr. looks forward to walking the neighborhoods of the new 13th District and meeting his constituents.
