Cardiopulmonary Corp. Enhances Bernoulli(R) Patient Safety Surveillance With Direct Communications With Philips IntelliSpace Event Management

Customized Patient Alert Notifications Deliverable to Designated Healthcare Workers' Devices

MILFORD, Conn., Feb. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cardiopulmonary Corp. (CPC) today announced an additional option to their Bernoulli® MX Gateway used for device connectivity and alarm notification. Bernoulli now integrates with the Philips IntelliSpace Event Management, a leading secondary alert notification solution with expanded clinical support for managing disparate care system alerts.

Bernoulli is a vendor-neutral platform that captures and manages time-sensitive patient and device data, including alarms, from patient monitoring or therapy devices, or other medical devices. The Gateway provides the device connectivity to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or other hospital systems (wired or wireless) via HL7 or other vendor specific protocols. Integration with Philips IntelliSpace Event Management facilitates sending event notification and patient alerts directly to individual communication devices such as IP phones, pagers, badges, or other wireless systems, or to enterprise communication platforms. This integration offers an innovative solution that monitors alerts and sends customized notifications to designated healthcare workers when and where necessary via a wide variety of devices. This is especially beneficial in areas or locations where changes in patient status or alerts might go unnoticed or unheard.

Receiving critical patient information such as patient values and notifications may allow earlier clinical interventions, and may lead to better patient outcomes.  "Today's healthcare enterprises are being challenged to manage and respond efficiently to multiple event notifications, alerts and alarms. This integration with Philips allows clinicians to better focus on the delivery of care and reduce communication breakdowns," stated Dr. James Fackler, CPC's VP, Business Development.

"Offering the broadest choice of integrations to manage communications is critical to the Philips overarching goal to help improve patient care and clinical workflows. We are pleased to offer joint customers the Bernoulli MX Gateway as a value-added integration with IntelliSpace Event Management. This provides further opportunity for us to improve the clinical environment and patient care," explained Frank Sample, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Patient Informatics Solutions, for Philips Healthcare.

Together, Cardiopulmonary Corp. and Philips Healthcare deliver a standout integration that can address communication challenges and help our customers enhance their patient and staff satisfaction metrics.
