LetterMpress Apps for iPad and Mac Add Typefaces and Art Cuts

CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Feb. 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- mpressInteractive, LLC announced the release of LetterMpress® version 1.4.0 for Mac and iPad. This LetterMpress upgrade now features 32 vintage typefaces, including five new additions: Caslon, Devinne, German Gothic, Fanfare, and Hebrew Sans. German Gothic and Fanfare incorporate German characters like Eszett, and stand-alone diacritics acute, grave, circumflex and umlaut.

Also included are 14 new art cuts, including original linocuts by artist Lisa Kesler. LetterMpress now comes standard with over 200 art cuts, symbols, borders, flourishes and catch words.

"We're expanding our collection of hard to find non-English typefaces, and we're in the market for quality wood type," says John Bonadies, co-creator of LetterMpress. "Half our business is international, and LetterMpress was named an App of the Week in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland when we launched. We're especially interested in acquiring typefaces that utilize diacritics to add to our unique vintage collection—Cyrillic being one that we would love to include."

LetterMpress is being used on thousands of Macs and iPads worldwide to produce professional quality graphic designs for prints, posters, books, invitations, greeting cards, scrapbooks, photo albums and more. University instructors are also integrating LetterMpress into their design curriculum as they find it an ideal tool for students to learn about typography and letterpress in a historical context, as well as experimenting with typographic forms and visual organization.

LetterMpress designs can be printed directly from within the app, output for use in popular graphics applications like Photoshop® and InDesign®, and shared via email, Photo Album, and posted to Facebook, Tumblr and other social media.

LetterMpress apps for the Apple iPad and Mac let anyone enjoy a hands-on experience working with vintage wood type, art cuts and hand printing press techniques to create authentic letterpress graphics. Users go through every step of the traditional printing process to select and assemble type and art images from a growing collection of genuine letterpress wood typefaces and designs. They mix colors and ink the type, select paper from an array of colors and textures, and hand-crank the virtual printing press on their display to output designs.

LetterMpress for the Mac is available now on the Mac App Store for $9.99 USD.

LetterMpress for the iPad is available now on the App Store in the Entertainment category for $5.99 USD.

Additional information and video demonstrations of both versions can be found on the apps' Web site, www.lettermpress.com and on the LetterMpress YouTube channel. LetterMpress users have launched a LetterMpress Flickr group to showcase their designs and share ideas, and more designs and news appear on the LetterMpress Facebook page.
