Entropic Communications, Sichuan Jiuzhou Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. Advance Broadband IPTV Services Throughout China With Integrated Access Platform

BEIJING, March 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CHINA CONTENT BROADCASTING NETWORK EXPO -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced Sichuan Jiuzhou Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (Jiuzhou) will integrate Entropic's c.LINK® Broadband Access silicon into its Passive Optical Network (PON) systems and Set-top Box (STB) for the China Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) market.

This strategic partnership and technology integration enables Jiuzhou to offer a high bandwidth and cost-effective broadband product over a single coaxial wire to the greater China market. An end-to-end solution incorporating both PON and EoC technologies, Jiuzhou will enable China MSOs to offer both TV and broadband service, as well as introduce new IP video services – on the existing coaxial cable – to service multiple-dwelling units (MDU). The Jiuzhou STB products with integrated c.LINK Access customer premise equipment (CPE) are a high Radio Frequency (RF) implementation based on Entropic's leading MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) technology, Jiuzhou's EoC solution is mature, stable, and can provide a high performance, low latency, bandwidth-rich backbone for the delivery of high-resolution IP video.

"As China MSOs roll out new IP-based services, they require a scalable and superior performing network to ensure the highest quality of service," said Wang Qiang, vice general manager, Jiuzhou. "We partnered with Entropic because their c.LINK silicon product is highly regarded in the market as a mature high RF implementation and offers service robustness with greater throughput when compared to other access technologies. Also as a single EoC solution, it provides more than 270 Mbps of raw data bandwidth yielding over 175 Mbps of application throughput, which is necessary to deliver the quality of service China MSOs and their subscribers demand."

Entropic's c.LINK Broadband Access solution leverages MoCA silicon, and is comprised of the EN3511 Network Controller (NC) and the EN3530 CPE silicon. The system is scalable with a single NC supporting up to 63 clients, with rate control available on a per client basis. By operating above the regular CATV signals and providing frequency agility between 800 MHz and 1500 MHz, additional NCs can be added to support even more clients on the network.

"Our c.LINK Broadband Access technology, incorporated into Jiuzhou's PON product, allows for broadband service to be delivered to China MDUs using existing coaxial cabling in the buildings," said Tom Luan, vice president and general manager, China operations, Entropic. "The IPTV and broadband opportunity in China is both highly desirable to consumers and profitable to MSOs. Our joint offering will help China's MSOs build their subscriber base while expanding revenue opportunities in a competitive market."

About the c.LINK Broadband Access Solution

The c.LINK Broadband Access solution is a high RF EoC application, making it a solid solution for cable operators who plan to upgrade their networks for bi-directional communication as it can co-exist with other services on the same coaxial cable, demonstrates lower susceptibility to noise and interference, and is scalable to add more channels to accommodate the broadband demands of MSOs as consumer consumption of bandwidth continues to grow. The solution will interoperate with earlier generation c.LINK technologies, and support all IP-based applications, such as IPTV, voice over IP (VoIP) and web traffic, among others, while supporting superior latency and Quality of Service (QoS) performance attributes.

Availability

Jiuzhou's products featuring Entropic's technology will be exhibited at CCBN, and will be available to Chinese MSOs beginning in the 2H 2012.
