5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Gmail(R), From the Personal Technology Experts(R) at Support.com

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gmail is one of the most popular, intuitive and efficient web-based email systems on the planet, with a wide range of features that aren't always utilized and probably would take a lifetime to master. Fortunately, with some basic tricks you can get the most out of your Gmail experience. Try these 5 tips from the Personal Technology Experts at Support.com (Nasdaq:SPRT):

  1. Use Gmail as Online Storage: Gmail offers 75GB of online space, but most of us aren't using anything close to that. So what's the best way to utilize all that space? One way is to use it for online data storage, for example you can supplement your online backup by emailing files to yourself (plus you'll always have files within reach). You can attach files up to 25MB. If you use Firefox® as your main web browser, install Gspace®, a handy add-on designed to transfer files from your hard drive to your Gmail account quickly and seamlessly.

  2. Create Automated Replies: You can use the Vacation Responder option available in Gmail to send an automatic response to the people in your contact list and others for a specific time period. Go to Settings > General, and scroll down to Vacation Responder. Select the Vacation Responder on radio button, select the dates, type in a subject, type in the email message, and click the Save Changes button.

  3. Consolidate Email Accounts: If you've got more than one Gmail account, then chances are you're already annoyed by needing to log in and out of accounts. Instead, install the Gmail Manager, a Firefox add-on that allows you to check all your mail accounts at once. On that note, if you have multiple email accounts outside of Gmail you can funnel them all into your Gmail account. Go to Settings > Accounts and Import, and click the Check Mail Using POP3 link. Follow the wizard and you'll have all your emails in one place!

  4. Power Gmail Searches: One of the coolest things about Gmail is its power search mechanism which not only allows you to find what you're looking for quickly and accurately, but can also be used to set up filters that more efficiently and automatically organize your inbox.

  5. Create Google® Documents From Email Messages: If you have used (or heard) of Google Docs, you probably know how useful and easy it is to create, edit and share Microsoft Office® documents on the cloud. The good news is that you can convert your email messages into Google document with just one click. Just go to Settings > Labs, and enable Create a Document. The next time you read an email, hit the 'Create a document' option from the right sidebar, and your email message will be converted into a Google document.
