Houston Museum District Puts Tendenci(R) CMS Platform on Display

Tendenci Now Available as an Open Source Product

HOUSTON, April 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Houston Museum District Association has launched its new website, http://houstonmuseumdistrict.org, powered by Tendenci (www.tendenci.com) content management system (CMS). With Tendenci CMS, which was designed specifically for non-profits organizations (NPOs) and associations, Houston Museum District staff can easily and quickly update information about events and exhibits at the district's 19 museums.

Earlier this month, Schipul, which developed and managed the proprietary Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model of Tendenci, released Tendenci as an open source product. The Tendenci Open Source download is available at https://github.com/tendenci/tendenci.

"We selected Tendenci because it is a complete solution that satisfies all our needs, including modules for events management, online donations, photo albums and videos," said Laurette Canizares, executive director of the Houston Museum District Association. "We are thrilled that the website is so intuitive and easy to update – even for those who have never used a CMS before. By keeping the information fresh, we can accurately capture how exciting and active the district is. The fact that Tendenci is now open source also gives us a greater sense of control."

The Houston Museum District Association is a 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes the 19 museums within a 1.5 mile radius of the Mecom Fountain as a destination to maximize the use of artistic, scientific and educational resources of its institutions. Tendenci provides Houston Museum District a bundled set of automated Web marketing tools, including a robust events calendar that serves to showcase the many events happening daily across the museums, a donation form, and rich media photo gallery and video gallery.

Additionally, the Schipul team created a custom plug-in that provides each individual museum a page that aggregates content related to that museum from throughout the website – including events, photos, and special offers. The staff from each museum has the ability to update their museum's page using the Tendenci CMS.

Despite offering a large volume of information about the 19 institutions in the district, the designers at Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com) created a clean, simple and inviting look. Those interested in a particular institution will find the navigation makes it easy to peel back the layers and explore the full depth of information on any topic.

Tendenci currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), and Think LA (http://thinkla.org/). It has more than 1 million users.
