IIJ Global to Launch Cloud-Based Federated Authentication Solution for Connecting Corporate Authentication Systems With Cloud Services

TOKYO, April 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) (Nasdaq:IIJI) (TSE1:3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and 100% owned IIJ subsidiary and developer of WAN services for corporate clients, IIJ Global Solutions Inc., today announced the release of the new "Cloud Federated Authentication Solution", which works with corporate authentication systems to connect the corporate systems with multiple cloud services.

With the launch of this solution, IIJ Global will conclude an agency agreement with U.S.-based Ping Identity Corporation, and will use PingFederate, a cloud-based identity management software that is already in use by about 800 of the world's largest corporations and government agencies, to provide this solution.

Below is a list of solution highlights.

  • Enabling secure federated authentication for inter-company, intra-company, and cloud service connections

This solution enables single sign-on (SSO) for inter-company and intra-company Web applications as well as federation with over 180 cloud services, providing secure SSO convenience for external connections. The federated authentication supports global standards such as SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID 2.0(*), and can meet a wide range of requirements.

  • Minimizing reconfiguration or modification of existing systems, compatible with automatic provisioning

The Cloud Federated Authentication Solution works with existing internal authentication systems and can be quickly implemented using the multi-vendor, +30 variations implementation kit, designed to minimize modification of existing company Web applications and SI costs. The solution also comes with a provisioning feature that will automatically synchronize the cloud service with any changes to the corporate authentication system, greatly reducing the burden on system administrators.

  • Introduction to all Asian countries

IIJ Global will be introducing this solution to all Asian countries in the future. Coupling this solution with a global network service, a 24/365 multi-lingual help desk and other services, we will be able to provide a federated authentication solution at the global level.

Initially, this solution will include building an on-premise environment, but the plan is to offer it as an SaaS via the IIJ GIO cloud service in the second half of 2012.

IIJ Global will continue to develop new, innovative services that support our client's global expansion.

* SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID 2.0

These are protocols for describing user authentication and attributes and information related to permissions, and by exchanging this information with websites and Web services, users can access multiple services with a single authentication, which is called "single sign-on" (SSO).
