FreeSeas Announces Filing of Form 12b-25 Notification of Late Filing


ATHENS, Greece, April 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- FreeSeas Inc. (Nasdaq:FREE) ("FreeSeas" or the "Company"), a transporter of dry-bulk cargoes through the ownership and operation of a fleet of Handysize and Handymax vessels, today announced it has filed a Form 12b-25, Notification of Late Filing, with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission relating to the Company's Annual Report on Form 20-F for the year ended December 31, 2011, which provides up to an additional 15 calendar days to file the Form 20-F following its April 30th due date.

The Company was unable to timely file its Form 20-F for the 2011 fiscal year without unreasonable effort or expense as described in its Form 12b-25 filing.
