No Hitter? Pitchers Assert Dominance and Stir Up Waves in Betting World

Sports Bettors Invited to Set Own Predictions for Number of No Hitters and Perfect Games Thrown During 2012 MLB Season

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As major league baseball pitchers toss No-Hitters around like they're no big deal, sports fans are asking what the outlook for No-Hitters looks like for the 2012 season. Sports marketing firm VRB Marketing has some insight, thanks to odds recently released by one of its partner sites, SportsBettingOnline.

"It appears to be another pitcher-friendly season," said Kevin Harper, sports analyst with VRB Marketing. "Through this past Monday, teams averaged 4.16 runs per game, the lowest output since 1992 (4.12), and batted a collective .249, the worst average since 1972 (.244). In addition we have already seen Philip Humber throw a Perfect Game and Jered Weaver throw a No-Hitter. With those type of stats being recorded after the first few weeks, we asked one of our partner sites how they think the season will play out, and the numbers are intriguing."

VRB Marketing's partner, SportsBettingOnline, put together odds for the number of No-Hitters thrown in the 2012 MLB season. They are as follows:

2 No-Hitters = +600 (bet $100 to win $600)

3-4 No-Hitters = +100 (bet $100 to win $100)

5-6 No-Hitters = -400 (bet $400 to win $100)

7-8 No-Hitters = +100 (bet $100 to win $100)

9-10 No-Hitters = +1000 (bet $100 to win $1000)

11 or more No Hitters = +1500 (bet $100 to win $1500)

At the time of the market release, there had already been two recorded No-Hitters in 2012. A bet on 2 No-Hitters would win if no other No-Hitter is thrown this season.

VRB Marketing also asked SportsBettingOnline to put together its predictions on whether another perfect game will be thrown during the 2012 MLB season. SportsBettingOnline also released odds, with a bet on 'Yes' is listed at +2000, meaning a bettor only has to lay down $100 to win $2,000. A bet on 'No' is listed at -2500, meaning a bettor must lay down $2,500 to win $100.

According to Harper, VRB Marketing worked hand-in-hand with the sportsbook to determine the prop bet odds by looking at the number of No-Hitters and Perfect Games over the last few seasons, as well as throughout baseball history.
