Industrial Technology Research Institute to Release 291 Patents

Patent Auction Announcement


HSINCHU, TAIWAN--(Marketwire - May 7, 2012) - Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the largest applied R&D organization in Taiwan, is set to release 190 cases including 291 patents. ITRI invites private companies to register their bids for these patents before May 29th. The patents to be released are related to six fields including: Electronics and Optoelectronics; Advanced Manufacturing Systems; Information and Communications; Material, Chemical and Nanotechnology; Energy and Environment; Biomedical technology. The patents to be transferred include the components and process technology for fabricating thin film transistor (TFT) and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). These patents provide leading edge technologies for companies in these fields to boost their patent portfolio strategy.

ITRI has been dedicated to promoting the advancement of Taiwan's diverse high-tech industries. Founded in 1973, ITRI has nurtured more than 70 CEOs, 170 innovative companies, and accumulated more than 16,000 patents. In comparison with similar international research organizations, ITRI ranked the top in terms of the numbers of US patents and patent citations acquired in 2010.

ITRI's R&D results have acquired prestigious international awards demonstrating ITRI's outstanding R&D capabilities. For example, ITRI was recognized for four consecutive years at the U.S. R&D100 Awards, including "On-Chip AC LED Lighting Technology" awarded in 2008; "STOBA lithium battery safety technology" garnered in 2009; "FlexUPD" (paper-thin, low-cost flexible flat displays), "i2/3DW" (integrates 2D and 3D information for simultaneous display on the same screen visible to the naked eye), "Reddex" (non-toxic fire resistant composite material technology) in 2010; and "i2R e-Paper" (re-writable and re-usable flexible electronic paper), "HyTAC" (new type of polarizer protective film that uses nano material mixing technology to produce great transparency and stability) in 2011.

Furthermore, ITRI's "FlexUPD" was awarded the gold winner of The Wall Street Journal 2010 Technology Innovation Award (TIA). Other TIA awards including "FleXpeaker" (paper-thin and flexible speaker) snatched the first prize in the Consumer Electronics category in 2009; "Spray-IT" (thermal spray coating significantly reduces energy consumption) received first-place prizes in Environment category, and "i2R e-Paper" also obtained first place in the Materials and Basic Science and Technology category in 2011.
