Under this partnership, GBS is providing its expertise and tools to easily create the mobile application interfaces while Teamstudio's Unplugged product delivers the native device support along with backend connectivity and synchronization allowing full mobile access to live Lotus & Domino data and applications.
Previously, mobile access to the millions of Lotus and Domino applications installed at enterprise customers around the world has been limited to offline use of the application within the Notes client itself or web-enabling the application specifically for use within micro-browsers on smartphones and tablets. As a result of the GBS and Teamstudio partnership, companies can now fully realize their mobile strategies enabling even their business critical Lotus Notes applications to run natively on iOS and Android devices regardless of whether a wireless connection is available. Applications can also be used in a hybrid mode, taking advantage of server-based features or access to data that has not been synchronized to the local device when connectivity is available.
GBS evaluated several mobile toolkits before selecting Teamstudio Unplugged. One of the main reasons for choosing Unplugged over the alternatives was because it offered customers a significantly lower Total Cost of Ownership by extending their investment and capabilities of their existing IBM® Lotus collaboration platform rather than having to replace it entirely. Unplugged received high marks during the evaluation for its ability to produce native applications that run on both iOS and Android based devices, as well as its straight forward deployment and administration of the applications on the devices. Furthermore, Unplugged was also the only technology evaluated that fully adhered to the Notes/Domino application security model.
