Viking Systems to Exhibit at AUA in Atlanta

Scientific Evidence Builds in Support of Efficacy of 3D Laparoscopic Visualization

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., May 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Viking Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:VKNG), a leading worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of 3D and 2D visualization solutions for complex minimally invasive surgery, announced today that 3DHD visualization will be the topic of a podium presentation at the 2012 annual meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA), May 19-22, 2012 in Atlanta, GA.

During the Poster and Podium session of the AUA, authors present an extraordinary range of studies in all fields of Urology. The session permits the author to orally present and explain objectives, methods and conclusions of their research.

This year, Dr. Brian Benway, Assistant Professor, Surgery, Division of Urologic Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO will present results of research on "2D VS. 3D Visualization: Impact Upon Laparoscopic Proficiency using the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery Skill Set". The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of 3D laparoscopic visualization technology for residents and fellows in training as well as practicing surgeons. The presentation entitled "Technology & Instruments: Surgical Education and Skills Assessment + Ureteroscopy I" will take place on Monday, May 21, from 8:00 am -10:00 am, Podium – POD19, room B310 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Jed Kennedy, president & CEO of Viking Systems, said, "Continued research and interest in the area of 3D visualization is encouraging. As the leader in 3DHD visualization, our experience has shown us that surgeons who have adopted our 3D technology immediately understand its value. Research like Dr. Benway's supports what surgeons have been telling us, which is, having the ability to see in 3D while operating laparoscopically is a true advantage both for the surgeon and the patient ultimately. Better visualization means potentially better patient outcomes."
