City of Wadsworth, Ohio Selects Comverge to Deliver Sophisticated Demand Response Program to Help the City Better Manage Peak Demand

Comverge's IntelliSOURCE Software Platform Integration With Advanced Metering Infrastructure System to Create Home Area Network Enabling Advanced Load Management

NORCROSS, Ga., June 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comverge Inc., the leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers, today announced that the City of Wadsworth, Ohio has chosen Comverge to manage its Home Area Network (HAN) and Load Control Programs. Comverge's IntelliSOURCE® software platform will integrate with the City's existing Itron OpenWay® AMI system to deliver a sophisticated demand response program that helps the northeast Ohio municipality engage its customers, improve reliability and reduce costs.

"We selected Comverge for their ability to manage complex energy management programs with a technology solution that is comprehensive and proven. Because of their success integrating the IntelliSOURCE platform with AMI to manage home area networks, we trusted them to deliver a customized solution that meets the specific requirements of our program, improves our ability to reduce peak demand and provides enhanced services to our customers," noted Chris Easton, Director of Public Service for the City of Wadsworth.

Wadsworth's "Connected Grid Project" calls for the installation of Comverge's HAN equipment, including IntelliPEAK load control devices, IntelliTEMP programmable thermostats and IntelliFOCUS in-home energy displays. Comverge will implement IntelliSOURCE as the software platform to control all of the devices. IntelliSOURCE provides Wadsworth with single-click control automation with a simple-to-use, yet powerful interface for visualizing impacts and forecasted event performance across its portfolio of load control devices.

"Given Wadsworth's complex integration requirements, their selection of Comverge is a testament to the ability of IntelliSOURCE to integrate with existing AMI systems," said R. Blake Young, Comverge's president and chief executive officer. "We recognize that AMI integration is a significant factor for utilities – especially for those in the public power market. We'll continue to invest in the right solutions to help ensure our customers maximize the value of their demand response programs. Additionally, the broad range of integrated energy management devices we are implementing at Wadsworth demonstrate the comprehensive solution portfolio Comverge brings to market."

Wadsworth, a public power provider in northeast Ohio with 20,000 residents and 12,775 meters, estimates that the City could curtail the growth of its overall system demand by up to 3 percent, and reduce the growth of overall energy consumption by up to 5 percent in five to 10 years, if home energy management solutions are implemented along with AMI. This project is partially funded under the U.S. Department of Energy's Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) Program.

Comverge provides a suite of intelligent energy management solutions that optimize the deployment and execution of demand response programs such as direct load control and dynamic pricing. Comverge solutions referenced in this press release help customers to:

  • Automate and support end-to-end demand response programs such as load control and dynamic pricing with IntelliSOURCE, a scalable, flexible and proven software platform.
  • Reduce kWh usage by user-defined time and temperature setbacks and/or price signal responses with IntelliTEMP, a programmable digital thermostat.
  • Curtail the end-customer's air conditioner as well as test for signal reception at the site with IntelliPEAK, a digital control unit.
  • Enable increased communication with your customer base, with IntelliFOCUS, a cost-effective, in-home display designed to help utilities communicate with their customer base through electric consumption data, real-time pricing and messaging alerts.

Comverge will be showcasing its solutions at the upcoming American Public Power Association 2012 Annual Conference and Exhibition (Booth #312) in Seattle, Washington from June 16 – June 20th
