Top Summer Child Injuries Parents Should Know

Child Safety Lawyer Warns Parents of Dangers That Cause Tragedies

CHICAGO, June 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- More children will visit the emergency room this summer due to near-drownings than another other type of injury. The onslaught of summer and all of the fun kids have at parks and pools also brings unfortunate injuries and tragedies. The most common summertime child injuries result from unsafe playgrounds, bicycle accidents, burns from campfires and fireworks, motor vehicles, and water hazards at pools, beaches and lakes.

Chicago area child injury lawyer and child safety advocate, Ken Levinson, urges parents not to ignore the dangers that come along with summertime activities and learn how to prevent serious harm to their child. In Levinson's new book, "Protecting Our Children," he draws from his experience as a trial lawyer to discuss how injuries occur and help parents proactively protect their children. "As a trial lawyer, by the time a family came to me with an injured child, it was too late. Parents need the most help before the injury happens to learn how to prevent unsafe situations," said Levinson as he explained his intent behind writing the book.

Levinson offers valuable advice for avoiding crib death, school bullying, organized sports injuries, daycare injuries, street accidents, school bus hazards and more. The book also offers a very practical outline of ten things parents can do in ten minutes to make their homes safer. Additionally, Ken Levinson's blog called "The Safest Line" offers valuable safety tips and encourages parents to spread the word about safety and preventing injuries. "It's important that kids are protected and child injury cases are handled properly, but even more critical is to make every effort to prevent child injuries from happening in the first place."
