DALLAS, July 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Heart Association has announced its national officers for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
Ron W. Haddock, the retired CEO of FINA and interim CEO of AEI Services, LLC, is chairman. Donna K. Arnett, Ph.D., M.S.P.H, chairperson of the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health, is president.
As chairman, Haddock will be responsible for the association's business affairs, public relations and fundraising, and will preside over all board of directors and administrative cabinet meetings. An association volunteer for more than 10 years, Haddock recently completed a two-year term as chairman of the organization's SouthWest Affiliate and is also a past chairman of its Dallas Division. He is a member of the association's Corporate Operations Coordinating Committee, International Committee and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Business Management Committee.
As president, Arnett will serve as chief volunteer scientific and medical officer, responsible for medical, scientific and public health matters.
An association volunteer for more than 20 years, Arnett recently completed a two-year term as president of the organization's Greater Southeast Affiliate. In 2005, she received the association's Award of Meritorious Achievement for her service as the inaugural chairperson of the Functional Genomics & Translational Biology Interdisciplinary Working Group. She is a member of the association's Advocacy Coordinating Committee and Corporate Operations Coordinating Committee. Alvin L. Royse, a retired senior partner with Deloitte & Touche, is secretary-treasurer. Royse, of Hillsborough, Calif., will oversee the association's operational functions and revenue-generating opportunities. He is a past chairman of the association's Western States Affiliate and San Francisco Division.
The association has also announced its 2012-13 secretary-treasurer, chairman-elect and president-elect.
Mariell Jessup, M.D., medical director of the Penn Heart and Vascular Center at the University of Pennsylvania, is president-elect. Jessup is a member of the association's Science Advisory & Coordinating Committee and is a past chairman of the Committee on Scientific Sessions Program.
Bernard P. Dennis, owner of Dennis Associates, LLC, is chairman-elect. Dennis, of Sudbury, Mass., recently completed a one-year term as the association's secretary-treasurer and is a past chairman of the organization's Founders Affiliate.
