Industry Study: Comverse is Value-Added Service (VAS) Global Market Leader

Comverse Extends Reign as #1 in Overall VAS Market Share Worldwide, and a Leader in Innovation

WAKEFIELD, Mass., July 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comverse® (Nasdaq:CMVT), the global leader in business enablement through BSS, mobile Internet, value-added and managed services, extended its global #1 rating again last year as the market share leader in Value-Added Services (VAS).

Worldwide market research conducted by industry analyst Frost & Sullivan ranked vendor market share in the three principal VAS categories: voicemail, text messaging (SMSC) and multimedia messaging (MMSC) covering the period 2010-2011.

In the voice arena, Comverse maintained its imposing market lead in 2011 with a voicemail market share (including next-generation voicemail and visual voicemail) more than twice as high as that of the runner-up. Comverse's strong second-place market share position in both SMSC and in MMSC contributed to its decisive overall first-place finish – with a total VAS market share several percentage points ahead of its nearest challenger.

Ronald Gruia, Principal Analyst for Frost & Sullivan's ICT Practice, interpreted the findings. "Comverse emerges as the reigning overall VAS market leader globally in each of the two years studied, with nearly a one-quarter total market share. This is a significant achievement in a crowded field that is in constant flux. Comverse is further distinguished as the only company to place in the top two in all three VAS segments: voice, text and multimedia messaging. In contrast, no other company was able to accomplish a top-two ranking in more than a single segment. Comverse's ongoing broad VAS leadership is noteworthy."

"Market leadership can be maintained over an extended period of time only where there is practical innovation," Gruia added. "Comverse's edge in this arena is consistent with the fact that Comverse typically outspends its competitors in terms of research and development (R&D) according to our findings."

"While it is gratifying to receive independent validation of our stature in the industry from respected analysts, there is more to this story than just the latest statistics," said Oz Ovady, Senior Vice President and Value-Added Services General Manager at Comverse. "Comverse has been in the forefront of VAS leadership for more than 25 years by continually introducing compelling services that enhance the customer experience and open the door to revenue opportunities."

"Our growing customer base includes more than 450 communication service providers around the world who rely on Comverse to add value to their networks, and look to our broad, expanding portfolio of solutions – such as VAS 3.0 – to take them into a future of openness, opportunity, and optimized monetization of their assets for sustained success and growth," Ovady concluded.
