Aquarium Supply Store Celebrates Take Your Dog To Work Day

Fish-loving ecommerce company MarineDepot.com starts summer by honoring man's best friend

Garden Grove, CA, July 12, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Executives at aquarium supply store MarineDepot.com encouraged employees to turn on their auto fish feeders before coming into the office June 22 so they could stay and celebrate Pet Sitters International's Take Your Dog To Work Day®.

"Normally our team is focused on wet pets, like fish, coral and invertebrate," admits Ben Ros, Director of Operations at MarineDepot.com. "This event helps us show our staff how much we care about the role pets play in their lives, whether they happen to be underwater in an aquarium or on good-old terra firma."

Ros, owner of a 4-year-old Goldendoodle (a golden retriever/poodle cross-breed) named Tiger Woods the Dog, was a big advocate for TYDTWDay when he first heard about the event four years ago. He and the MarineDepot.com staff have been participating in the annual event ever since.

TYDTWDay was created by PSI in 1999 to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoptions. It is an annual event that is always celebrated on the Friday following Father's Day. It encourages employers to experience the joy of pets in the workplace and support their local pet community.

Most of the dogs participating in TYDTWDay at MarineDepot.com were adopted at local shelters or rescued from pet owners who were unable to properly care for their animals. Among those rescued was Chloe, a one-year-old German Shepherd.

"I rescued her from the Los Angeles Animal Control Shelter in Gardena. She was a stray found with her sister and was emaciated but otherwise in good health," reflects Ryan Christofferson, Senior Web Designer at MarineDepot.com. "She's put on close to 20 pounds and grew a couple of inches in the six months we've had her."

All dogs in attendance were treated with goodie bags filled with a Kong rope toys, Greenies chew treats and other canine-friendly favors. Managers manned the barbecue grilling up tasty burgers and, of course, hot dogs for the team during lunch hours.

"I liked the fact that so many employees participated, plus the BBQ was nice," remarked MarineDepot.com Purchasing Manager Mark Odriozola, owner of a five-year-old Boxer named Ali he rescued from a shelter a few years ago. "She did really well. She was excited to meet all of the other dogs and explore the office."
