ATCO Launches Business to Serve Indigenous Communities

ATCO Sustainable Communities provides high-quality buildings, housing and utility infrastructure

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 16, 2012) - ATCO today announced the launch of ATCO Sustainable Communities Inc., a new company that provides a full range of pre-fabricated building solutions for Indigenous and other remote communities. The new company will bring a focus to building partnerships that will develop sustainable indigenous communities throughout Canada.

"We have been partnering with Indigenous communities since 1981, and we have more than 30 successful Aboriginal partnerships," said Nancy Southern, President & Chief Executive Officer, ATCO Group. "This company will harness our experience and expertise to help develop remote communities with facilities that contribute to a high quality of life and that reflect the community's cultural values."

ATCO Sustainable Communities can design and build an entire community with facilities ranging from offices, schools and day care centres to residential housing, hockey arenas and retail outlets. Building components are pre-engineered and manufactured in a controlled factory environment to ensure cost-effectiveness and consistent high-quality. The company also provides utility infrastructure, such as water purification and distributed power generation facilities.

"ATCO has 65 years of experience working in some of the most remote locations around the world," said newly-appointed President, Boris Rassin, a 27-year ATCO veteran with significant experience in business development, project management, construction and in developing partnerships with Aboriginal communities. "With our experience, expertise and technology, we are uniquely capable of contributing to increased sustainability of remote communities."

ATCO Sustainable Communities offers complete construction solutions from concept to completion and provides design-build services to simplify the execution of complex projects. The result is a successful turn-key facility built to reflect a community's cultural values, while delivering shorter project timelines and dedicated quality control throughout the manufacturing and installation process.

ATCO Sustainable Communities' culturally sensitive building solutions have unique design features such as energy efficiency, low maintenance and high durability; fire and mold-resistant materials; a broad selection of consistent quality finishes and furnishings; and IT connectivity. The ATCO Warranty provides peace-of-mind for remote communities, while post-construction training in operations and maintenance of the newly-built facility ensures its lasting contribution to the community's sustainability.

ATCO Sustainable Communities is part of the ATCO Group of Companies.
