Analogic's Cobra Checkpoint CT System Achieves European Standard Allowing Liquids and Laptops to Remain in Carry-On Baggage

PEABODY, Mass., July 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), enabling the world's medical imaging and aviation security technology, today announced that its Cobra® checkpoint/carry-on CT system has successfully met the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) standard for screening liquids/aerosols/gels in two different operational modes. The Cobra successfully met that standard in Type D operations, where liquids/aerosols/gels remain inside passenger carry-on bags, as well as in Type D+ operations, where both liquids/aerosols/gels and complex electronics, such as laptop computers, remain in carry-on baggage.

Built on Analogic's proprietary computed tomography (CT) technology, the Cobra checkpoint system improves airport operational efficiency and the passenger experience, while providing superior threat-detection capability.

Jim Green, Analogic's president and CEO, commented, "Our industry-leading CT technology advances threat detection while addressing a major source of inconvenience for the travelling public and airport employees. The Cobra system enhances detection capabilities with low false-alarm rates and increases effective throughput compared to existing solutions."

Analogic's Cobra checkpoint solution is designed to drive up to 30% higher baggage throughput and lower false-alarm rates compared to conventional X-ray scanners. The Cobra's superior performance enables airports to use fewer checkpoint lanes, therefore reducing operating and commissioning costs, while improving the passenger experience. CT technology provides a cost-effective alternative to conventional X-ray with the benefits of superior security screening, faster throughput, and 3D imaging.

Analogic's CT technology meets the highest TSA and ECAC standards for threat detection. Over the past fifteen years, Analogic has developed and deployed more than 1,100 state-of-the-art threat-detection systems and subsystems for use in airports around the world. Analogic provides innovative solutions for a wide spectrum of customers ranging from small regional airports to large international hubs.
