Elektrėnai, Lithuania, 2012-07-24 09:04 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lietuvos energija, AB continues the implementation of the project of modernisation of heat generation technologies of the Lithuanian Power Plant. Modernisation is targeted at the construction of new biofuel and natural gas fuelled boilers. International tender for the design, equipment and works of the construction of new thermal energy generation capacities in the Lithuanian Power Plant was called on 23.07.2012.
After the project is implemented, total capacity of new biofuel boilers of the Lithuanian power plant will be 40 MW, and total capacity of gas fuelled steam boilers – 50 MW. 90% of heat demand is planned to be ensured through heat generation in biofuel boilers; whereas the maximum heat demand during the heating season as well as the reserves will be ensured by gas fuelled steam boilers, which will also be used for the operation of reserve units of the power plant.
The complex of new generation capacities will produce heat to the residents and corporate sector of Elektrėnai region. Efficient use of local fuel should become an alternative to the increasingly costly imported gas. The project is expected to ensure competitive and stable heating prices.
New heat generation capacities are an integral part of a general renovation project of the Lithuanian Power Plant. Part of the new heat generation capacities which use biofuel are planned to be put into operation as early as in 2013. The overall project of modernisation of heat generation technologies of the Lithuanian Power Plant should be accomplished in 2014.
