Opower Finds Homes With Swimming Pools Use 49% More Electricity Per Year, but It's Not Just Because of the Pool

ARLINGTON, Va., July 26, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Homes with swimming pools use 49% more electricity per year than homes without pools, but its not entirely because of the pool, according to Opower, the global leader in energy information software for the utility industry. Opower analyzed data from 2 million homes in the western United States and found that pool homeowners spend approximately $500 more on energy per year due to the both the pools themselves, as well as the occupants' more energy-intensive lifestyles.
