MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 31, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Walker Art Center presented the first Cat Video Festival this evening at its Open Field, drawing an audience over 10,000. The people's choice award, the Golden Kitty, was presented to William Brandon, creator of Henri 2, Paw de Deux. Brandon comments "This is a great honor. I don't think I've ever purred this loudly!"
Chosen by online voting, the Golden Kitty was the shown as the finale of the festival and will be broadcast during the season finale of Animal Planet's My Cat From Hell on September 8 at 8 pm EST.

Drawing over 10,000 online nominations, the Walker's festival was a communal experience for fans of the online phenomenon of cat videos and included videos submitted from around the world. The videos, divided into the categories of Comedy, Drama, Foreign, Animated, Musical, Documentary, Art House, Honorable Mention, Lifetime Achievement, and People's Choice, are listed below. The online version of the festival includes several Honorable Mention videos not screened at the event.
