Andaz 5th Avenue Launches the Second Year of tbd Art: A Celebration of Art and Culture

tbd Art Launches Year Two With Surrealist Painter & Artist in Residence, Daniel St. George

NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Andaz 5th Avenue launches year two of tbd Art – a rotating art series celebrating the art and culture of New York City – with Artist in Residence, Daniel St. George. St. George will paint his idea of "New York City – Today" on the doors leading to the bar downstairs at Andaz 5th Avenue. The hotel's yearly series continues with returning artist, Mister Cartoon, and many more provocative artists throughout the year. Each respective artist lives at the hotel while creating their work as the Andaz Artist in Residence. Guests and locals are encouraged to visit each artist during the live art installations and learn about the creative process, technique and inspiration. Art enthusiasts can also follow the artists' progress and read about their experiences by visiting http://andaz5thavenue.tumblr.com.

tbd Art provides an opportunity for guests of Andaz 5th Avenue to be a part of the Artist in Residence's creative process. Previous tbd Artist, Claw Money, encouraged guests to "tag" one of her canvases during the tbd Art launch party. June's artist, John Hung Ha, incorporated a flag from the country of each passerby into the scales of his Koi fish mural, and Mister Cartoon allowed guests of Andaz to jump the extensive waiting list to be inked by Cartoon, one of the world's most sought-after tattoo artists. This year, Daniel St. George will be the hotel's "Guest Tumblr," chronicling his own experiences through the Andaz 5th Avenue Tumblr page and encouraging art enthusiasts to ask questions that he'll be answering online.

Artist Daniel St. George begins on September 6th:

The works of surrealist artist Daniel St. George take viewers down a journey of self-reflection and empathy to explore the human condition. The majority of Daniel St. George's works feature muted landscapes and everyday scenes with slim characters lurking in the background, silently wishing someone would save them from their own insecurities and transgressions. During his time at Andaz 5th Avenue, Daniel St. George aims to uncover the suppression he feels the art and music industry has faced during New York's evolution into the modern-day utopian dream, and illustrate the present-day fantastical world he believes we all live in. Artist Mister Cartoon begins in December:

Andaz 5th Avenue is proud to welcome back iconic tattoo and graffiti artist, Mister Cartoon, for the second year of tbd Art. Mister Cartoon's first mural left guests and locals wanting more. His eye-catching artwork reflected the balance of power in New York City by featuring a bulldog and a temptress intertwined with the perils of the city.

Known as the "tattoo artist to the stars," Mister Cartoon's signature black and grey fine-line, free-hand graffiti style brings incredible life to all of his work. Hollywood icons such as Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé have all entrusted Mister Cartoon to expose some of their most intimate moments on their skin. Mister Cartoon will also be returning as Andaz 5th Avenue's Tattoo Artist in Residence, and will offer guests of Andaz 5th Avenue the chance to bypass the extensive waiting list to be inked by one of the world's most sought-after tattoo artists.  For more information about Mister Cartoon please visit http://mistercartoon.com/news.html.

tbd Art's Photographer

The step-by-step creation of the murals is chronicled by photographer Brendan Burke who has worked with famed photographers David LaChapelle and Patrick Demarchelier.
