AlliedBarton Security Services, HR Plus, Forest Advisors and the Milwaukee Police Department Present a Free Workplace Violence Prevention Seminar

Attendees Will Qualify for Four Certified Protection Professional Credits From ASIS International

MILWAUKEE, WI--(Marketwire - Sep 17, 2012) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, in partnership with Forest Advisors and the Milwaukee Police Department will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar. The seminar will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Blue, 310 West Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI. Free parking and lunch will be provided. Attendees will be eligible to receive four Certified Protection Professional credits from ASIS International.

Seminar speaker Pam Paziotopoulos, Senior Vice President, Workplace & Intimate Partner Violence, Forest Advisors, stated that historically, human resource and security departments were largely unprepared for violent or harassing behavior in the workplace and often reluctant to proactively create and implement policies and procedures dedicated to preventing such behavior. "Thankfully, times have changed and they now recognize the danger and damage that domestic violence can cause in the workplace," she said. "After all, domestic violence does not stay at home when its victims go to work. It follows them, resulting in violence where they work, often encompassing innocent bystanders. With one out of every three American women reporting physical abuse by an intimate partner according to the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, it seems certain that any organization has employees struggling with domestic violence."

Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, AlliedBarton Vice President of Learning & Development, agreed with Paziotopoulos. "Domestic violence is just one form of workplace violence which can happen anywhere and should not be tolerated under any circumstance," said O'Bryan. "It is important for individuals to have an understanding of the warning signs of all forms of workplace violence which will allow an organization and its employees to be more prepared to prevent this type of occurrence."

"It is not enough to just gather information on this pertinent subject," said Officer Mitchell L. Ross, Intelligence Fusion Center, Milwaukee Police Department. "We must share our knowledge properly and know what to do with it should an incident occur."

Seminar discussion topics will include domestic violence and its impact on the workplace; recognizing and preventing workplace violence; and local emergency response tactics. An open panel question and answer session will be held at the end of the seminar.

Seminar attendees will receive a complimentary eBook copy of "Potential: Workplace Violence Prevention and Your Organizational Success" by Bill Whitmore, AlliedBarton's President and CEO.

Potential, www.potentialthebook.com, shows how a range of stakeholders -- from CEOs and other senior leaders to building management, human resources, contract security and law enforcement -- can work together to lower an organization's workplace violence risk and enhance its overall morale and performance.

Speakers and panel members include: Mike Cummings, Senior Vice President Security and Loss Prevention, Aurora Health Care; Pam Paziotopoulos, Senior Vice President, Workplace & Intimate Partner Violence, Forest Advisors; Officer Mitchell L. Ross, Intelligence Fusion Center, Milwaukee Police Department; and Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, AlliedBarton Vice President of Learning & Development.
