Inaugural Meeting of Wall Street Journal CIO Network to Include HP CEO Whitman, X PRIZE Foundation CEO Diamandis, and Other Top Technology Executives

Journal to Convene Chief Information Officers in San Diego on January 14-15


NEW YORK, Sept. 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal announced today it will convene leading chief information and technology officers for the first annual meeting of its CIO Network. The invitation-only meeting will take place January 14-15 at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego with the mission to debate and decide on action plans for addressing the most pressing technology and innovation challenges facing corporations today.

The opening session will feature X PRIZE Foundation Chairman and CEO Peter Diamandis in an on-stage interview with Wall Street Journal Deputy Managing Editor Alan Murray to discuss the coming technology explosion, including the advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, digital manufacturing, nano-technology, and synthetic biology.

Tuesday morning, Meg Whitman, president and CEO of Hewlett Packard, will be the keynote interview with a discussion focused on creating a culture of innovation. Vivek Kundra, the first CIO of the United States and current EVP, emerging markets, for Salesforce.com, will discuss the transformative value of information technology on stage with CIO Journal Editor Michael Hickins.

In addition to Mr. Murray and Mr. Hickins, a select group of Wall Street Journal editors will moderate the discussions throughout the two-day meeting, including: John Bussey, assistant managing editor; David Wessel, global economics editor; Jessica Vascellaro, senior technology reporter; and CIO Journal reporter Rachael King.

Central to the meeting are the special task force sessions focused on key topics of urgent importance to chief information and technology executives. In these sessions, the Network members will work together to develop recommendations for solutions that will be published exclusively in The Wall Street Journal CIO Network special report in the Journal and on WSJ.com following the meeting.
