The Travel Corporation Launches The TreadRight Foundation

Philanthropic Branch Has Committed $1.5 Million to Sustainable Tourism Projects

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Sept. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Travel Corporation is excited to relaunch their not-for-profit, originally established as The Conservation Foundation, as The TreadRight Foundation (www.treadright.org). A branch of The Travel Corporation devoted to sustainable tourism initiatives, the newly named TreadRight Foundation has donated more than $1.5 million US to conservation projects since 2008, and recently expanded its focus to address sustainability amongst its own family of brands.

For half a decade, The Conservation Foundation had grown from its philanthropic roots to become the hub for The Travel Corporation's plethora of sustainable tourism efforts spanning its numerous travel brands, including Trafalgar, Contiki Holidays, Uniworld and Insight Vacations. Current efforts under The TreadRight Foundation include providing support to the development of a best practice guide for the environmental performance of river cruise operations, sponsoring future environmental leaders with Contiki and the Mesoamerican Reef Leadership fund, and supporting the development of community-based tourism for indigenous communities in Australia.

Heading into 2013, TreadRight will continue to support The Travel Corporation in its work in sustainable river cruising and numerous other existing projects, in addition to assisting environmental filmmaker Celine Cousteau in her efforts to share solutions for social and environmental challenges. In partnership with Trafalgar, TreadRight will also continue its second year of support for Britain's National Trust and its bid to save the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. The Travel Corporation's culture of sustainability is prevalent throughout the company's different regions on all levels, but its formative roots come from the top. "The TreadRight Foundation represents the way forward for us," says The Travel Corporation President and CEO Brent Tollman. "TreadRight will build on The Conservation Foundation's culture of giving and more deeply address our own efforts at becoming the most responsible travel business we can be."

With a long history of support for environmental, social and cultural projects beginning with the founding Tollman family, The Travel Corporation upholds the belief that giving back is the responsibility of any successful business. Staff and employees are encouraged to donate their time to local causes and larger initiatives that The Travel Corporation supports, including South Africa's Amy Biehl Foundation, as well as Tourism Cares.

TreadRight has been a key sponsor for the World Travel & Tourism Council's Tourism for Tomorrow Awards since 2008, and will sponsor again in 2013. The awards seek to identify and acknowledge best practices in sustainable tourism globally. For more information on current and past projects, please visit www.treadright.org.
