NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal will again bring together 100 of the world's leading chief executives to address critical business and policy issues at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council's fifth annual meeting (http://ceocouncil.wsj.com). The meeting will take place November 12-13 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The Wall Street Journal CEO Council annual meeting will start one week after the U.S. presidential election and on the eve of a series of critical government fiscal decisions that could shape American and global economic policies for the coming decade.

"This will be a crucial, global gathering, given that it will come just a week after the U.S. presidential election. Policies will be in play and issues in flux," said Robert Thomson, Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal, who will deliver the opening remarks.

For the Monday opening night session, Senator Joseph Lieberman (I., Conn.) along with former Senators Trent Lott (R., Miss.) and James Sasser (D., Tenn.) will participate in an on-stage interview with Wall Street Journal Deputy Managing Editor Alan Murray. They will discuss the last two years of fiscal problems for the U.S. government, how the months ahead offer an opportunity to turn that around, and whether a divided government can work.

The program includes on-stage interviews Tuesday morning with senior policymakers, renowned business leaders and administration officials, including Rep. Paul Ryan (R.,Wis.) and Rep. Christopher Van Hollen, Jr. (D., Md.), who will discuss fiscal policies with Wall Street Journal Global Economics Editor David Wessel.

In addition, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz will explain how big data poses both opportunities and risks for corporations; Robert Zoellick, former World Bank Group president and senior fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University, and Austan Goolsbee, former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, will provide a global economic outlook; and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger will reflect on key foreign policy matters.

Following interviews with key guests, CEO Council members will break into five task forces to debate and identify the most urgent priorities, risks and opportunities facing business, government, and the economy.

Members of the CEO Council serving as co-chairs for the 2012 task forces include: Tim Armstrong of AOL Inc.; Mark T. Bertolini of Aetna; R. Marcelo Claure of Brightstar Corp.; Roger W. Ferguson, Jr. of TIAA-CREF; Bob McDonald of Procter & Gamble; Larry J. Merlo of CVS Caremark Corporation; Brent Saunders of Bausch & Lomb Inc.; Mikhail Shamolin of JSFC Sistema, and many others.

A select group of Wall Street Journal editors will moderate the discussions throughout the two-day meeting, including: Robert Thomson, managing editor; Alan Murray, deputy managing editor; Gerald Seib, Washington bureau chief; Francesco Guerrera, editor, Money & Investing; Jon Hilsenrath, chief economics correspondent; David Wessel, global economics editor; Paul Gigot, editorial page editor and vice president; John Bussey, assistant managing editor; Laura Landro, assistant managing editor; and Joseph White, senior Detroit editor.

The results of the CEO Council annual meeting will be published in a special Journal Report on November 19, available in the U.S., Europe and Asia print editions of The Wall Street Journal and on WSJ.com.
