Southington Chiropractor Provides Screenings at Apple Harvest Festival

SOUTHINGTON, Conn., Sept. 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Grant Chiropractic Health Center will be participating in the Southington Apple Harvest Festival from Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7. Chiropractor Dr. Carol Grant says that attendees can receive a muscle tension screening during the festival hours that weekend for $5.00. The fee can be applied toward a complete examination and x-rays. All money raised at the event will be donated to the Children's Make a Wish charity, which helps children with life-threatening illnesses. Dr. Grant says she always looks forward to the Apple Harvest Festival because it is a great opportunity for families to enjoy time together as they get to know different artists and small businesses in the community.

The Southington chiropractor explains that the muscle tension postural screenings are a good way to introduce the public to how posture affects overall health. "Apple Harvest Festival is one of my favorite times of year because I love apples and I love getting to know more of my neighbors while helping with spine health. When people pay attention to their posture they suffer fewer back pain issues and are less likely to suffer injuries. The festival gives me a chance to introduce people to this effective, natural way to improve their health."

During screenings, chiropractor Dr. Grant evaluates the alignment of the spine. She measures muscle balance while standing at different levels of the spine. She says she then discusses how spinal alignment affects health conditions a person may have. For example, Dr. Grant recently did a postural muscle screening for a woman who was in what she considered a minor car accident. She said the woman reported a sudden onset of headaches a few days later. Dr. Grant noted a misalignment in the woman's neck vertebrae which indicated possible whiplash. She says this is a frequent, yet under-diagnosed car accident injury that causes a lot of pain. According to Dr. Grant, the woman was then able to get spinal adjustments and massage therapy that resolved her symptoms.

According to Dr. Grant, many people suffer health conditions that can be attributed to posture problems. She explains that many people have poor posture habits while sitting at their desks, or while standing; and that past injuries, or even sleeping on the wrong mattress can affect posture too. When vertebrae are misaligned, they pinch nerves, she says, which can cause many different symptoms. Correcting posture, explains Dr. Grant, can help people overcome symptoms.

Dr. Grant is eager to see as many people as possible at the festival. "We always have a great time, meeting people, eating great food, listening to music and helping people take good care of themselves. We love it!"
