This is the eighth consecutive year that Marlin has served as the title sponsor for the event.
The Sydney Mae Taylor Foundation was formed in August of 2001, in honor of Sydney Mae Taylor, with the mission of contributing to the education and well-being of children, especially children with congenital heart defects. Sydney Mae Taylor was born on March 8, 2001 with a congenital heart defect called Hypo plastic Left Heart Syndrome. Sadly, she died a short three-and-one-half weeks later on April 1, 2001. Sydney's parents decided to create the Sydney Mae Taylor Foundation in her honor.
Each year, the foundation holds fundraisers to raise money for scholarships and medical research as well as funding to send children to summer camp and for families who wish to attend Compassionate Friends National Conferences. Last year the money raised was used to help fund 17 scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.
The charity golf event is supported by the Community Enrichment Guild, Marlin's charitable committee made up of employee volunteers. Marlin's Community Enrichment Guild was established in 1999 with the purpose of becoming not only a "partner in business, but a friend in the community". This has been accomplished through the investment of time and resources into the communities in the cities in which Marlin's offices are located, and specifically by providing funds to national, regional and local charitable organizations, such as the Sydney Mae Taylor Foundation.
