American Academy of Pediatrics Debuts Android App for Mobile Access to AAP eBookstore

Powered by Impelsys' iPublishCentral, Free App Provides Users of Android-Powered Mobile Devices With Instant Access to More Than 100 eBooks From AAP

NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a 62,000-member organization dedicated to the health of children, today announced the launch of an app for Android-compatible devices that provides instant mobile access to the entire AAP eBook collection of more than 100 publications for pediatricians.

The AAP eBookstore app for Android devices can be downloaded from the Google Play site at http://tinyurl.com/aapebookandroid. Leading manufacturers of Android-powered mobile devices include HTC, Motorola and Samsung.

Impelsys, AAP's eBooks technology partner and a global leader in providing electronic content delivery solutions, developed the app with Impelsys' award-winning iPublishCentral software.

Impelsys has partnered with AAP to develop the organization's digital publishing strategy, starting with the launch of a branded eBookstore and later creating an app for iOS-compatible mobile devices, the mobile software for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The newly released Android app extends this strategy to make sure that pediatricians have access to AAP content, regardless of where they are or what device they're using.

"This new app for Android devices is the next step in our strategy of making sure that our members have convenient access to our entire eBook collection from any mobile device," said Linda Atteo, digital content and licensing coordinator for the AAP. "As part of AAP's strategy to build a virtual mobile library for its content, this is one of the many strategic moves we have in mind in the coming months."

According to Atteo, AAP also recently unveiled a new version of its eBookstore (www.aapebooks.org), with a number of performance improvements and an enhanced user interface. The improvements were made specifically with a focus on better accommodating access from mobile devices.

The AAP eBookstore provides libraries, medical schools, hospitals and pediatric offices with instant electronic access to more than 100 renowned AAP publications, including full-text, visuals, data tables and clinical recommendations. With AAP eBooks, users can purchase and download any content from the entire collection of AAP digital titles like Pediatric Clinical Practice Guidelines & Policies, Bright Futures, Pediatric Nutrition Handbook, Red Book Atlas, and Caring For Your Baby And Young Child: Birth To Age 5.

"We have seen a rise in mobile devices and a fast-growing market for Android-based devices, so we are focused on partnering with organizations such as AAP to make sure that this customer demand for content is met," said Sameer Shariff, chief executive officer of Impelsys. "The flexibility of iPublishCentral allows publishers to realize a seamless delivery of their content across multiple devices. Our partnership with AAP continues to grow and our ultimate goal is to make AAP's eBook content easily accessible on-demand from any location in the world and on any device, so we expect to introduce additional apps in the near future."
