FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 15, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has named Kathryn G. Simpson vice president and deputy general counsel, effective Oct. 15. Simpson will report to Sheila Cheston, corporate vice president and general counsel.

As vice president and deputy general counsel, Simpson will be responsible for diverse practice areas within the Law department, including leading teams in the international, environmental, intellectual property, labor and employment, pension and benefits, government contracts and government relations areas. Simpson will serve on the company's Strategy Development Council.

Simpson joins Northrop Grumman from the Raytheon Company, where she was vice president for legal, corporate transactions and governance. Simpson had been with Raytheon since 1995, taking on various positions of increasing responsibility, including general counsel of Raytheon International and general counsel of Raytheon Commercial Electronics. Prior to joining Raytheon, Simpson was at the United States International Trade Commission and in private practice at Foley and Lardner.

Simpson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and a juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin.
