Datapipe Ranks No. 8 on EPA's Top 20 Tech & Telecom List of Green Power Users

JERSEY CITY, NJ--(Marketwire - Oct 22, 2012) - Datapipe, a global provider of managed services and infrastructure for outsourced IT and cloud computing, today announced the company has increased its ranking to No. 8 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Top 20 Tech & Telecom list of the largest green power users. This increased green power usage further demonstrates Datapipe's ongoing commitment to protect the environment via building upon its existing alliance with EPA's Green Power Partnership.

Datapipe is using more than 74 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization's electricity use. The company is buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Constellation NewEnergy and Noble Americas Energy Solutions. Additionally, they are generating green power from an on-site solar energy system -- all demonstrating a proactive choice to switch from traditional sources of electricity generation to support cleaner renewable energy alternatives.

"In 2010, Datapipe initiated the use of 100 percent green power in a single data center facility, with an annual reduction of 8.5 million pounds of carbon emissions," said Robb Allen, Chief Executive Officer, Datapipe. Green power is electricity generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass, and low-impact hydro. Green power use helps accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector.

Datapipe's green energy use also qualifies it for the EPA's Green Power Leadership Club, a distinction given to organizations that have significantly exceeded EPA's minimum usage requirements. Green Power Leadership Club members must use ten times the partnership's minimum requirement organization-wide.

According to the U.S. EPA, Datapipe's green power usageof more than 74 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions of more than 10,000 passenger vehicles per year or the CO₂ emissions from the electricity use ofmore than 6,000 average American homes annually.

Datapipe has made a conscious decision to take conservation measures into account at each of its data centers. For example, Datapipe utilizes a 99 percent efficient Universal Power Source Energy Saver System and has installed a Econo Cooling Configuration, which optimizes the efficiency of Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units, resulting in a 55 percent power savings. Datapipe has also invested in ultrasonic humidifiers, which yield 90 percent energy savings over traditional humidifying systems.

In addition to supporting clean energy, Datapipe supports several internal green initiatives. These include recycling and waste reduction programs, mass transit incentives and sustainable services, such as paperless billing.
