Zebra Technologies Announces Commercial Shipment of IEEE Compliant Ultra-Wideband Dart Systems

An Integral Part of Real-Time Locating Systems, IEEE Tags and Sensors Enable Greater Visibility Into Business Operations for Customers

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., Oct. 24, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a recognized global leader in technologies that extend real-time visibility into business operations, today announced the first shipments of its recently released Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) compliant ultra-wideband (UWB) Dart sensors and tags. Customers, including the Boeing Company and Shanghai URTLS Technology, are deploying the high performing Zebra IEEE UWB systems to precisely track the location of assets, special-purpose tools and other equipment.

"Zebra's IEEE Dart Ultra Wideband solutions ensure URTLS can deploy a truly global technology that can scale and interoperate with other IEEE compliant products. The development of the IEEE standard for UWB eliminates concerns about using proprietary solutions," said Jinbo Yang, CEO of Shanghai URTLS Technology, a leading China-based real-time locating system (RTLS) company.

Zebra's Dart UWB solutions give end users the ability to accurately track personnel, assets and transactions in real time with unmatched performance. With the IEEE compliant Zebra tags and sensors, which are used in conjunction with Zebra Dart hardware and software, end users have an unprecedented level of interoperability and can build real-time locating systems based on their specific needs.

The lack of industry standards is a significant obstacle in the adoption of new technologies. This hurdle has been especially true for organizations seeking to gain greater insight into their value chains with new technologies such as UWB. In a recent global study commissioned by Zebra Technologies, 66 percent of those surveyed cited system integration as a major challenge for implementing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. This new IEEE standard, which was announced in the spring of 2012, enables users to build a system based on an open, globally recognized standard.

In making these technologies IEEE compliant, Zebra demonstrates its commitment to customer needs and innovation through providing solutions that enable customers to make smarter business decisions and improve their operational efficiency. Zebra's UWB technologies are part of an extensive RFID and RTLS portfolio that delivers improved visibility into assets, people and transactions.
