CBHNP Earns Full Managed Behavioral Health Organization Accreditation From NCQA

Accreditation Covers CBHNP's Programs for Pennsylvania Medicaid Managed Care

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Community Behavioral HealthCare Network of Pennsylvania (CBHNP), a member of the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, announced today that it has again earned a full Managed Behavioral Health Organization (MBHO) accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

The accreditation covers CBHNP's programs for HealthChoices, Pennsylvania's Medicaid managed care program, and follows the accreditations it received in 2006 and 2009. The current accreditation is valid through October 2, 2015.

"Receiving another full accreditation reflects success in achieving our vision of providing best-in-class behavioral health care management services to adults, children and families," said Sharon Duncan, C.P.A., executive director of CBHNP. "By providing these services to HealthChoices members we are helping to build a healthier Pennsylvania."

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information for consumers, purchasers, health care providers and researchers.

NCQA MBHO Accreditation evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system —physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services —in order to continuously improve health care for its members. NCQA reviews include rigorous on-site and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A national oversight committee of physicians and behavioral health providers analyzes the team's findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the MBHO's performance compared to NCQA standards.

"CBHNP's MBHO Accreditation is proof that it's an organization which works hard to coordinate care, provide access and good customer support for members," said Margaret E. O'Kane, NCQA President. "It's a sign that CBHNP is focused on improving the behavioral health of its members."
