MIAMI, Nov. 6, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Guests who have a spa treatment on any Celebrity Cruises ship Thanksgiving week, Nov. 19-25, will automatically participate in the Earth Day Network's Canopy Project, an initiative that has planted more than a million trees in 16 countries since 2010.
This initiative was spearheaded by The Onboard Spa by Steiner, the spa operator of Celebrity Cruises' AquaSpa by Elemis and the Earth Day Network, as a way to acknowledge the link between human well-being and a healthy, vibrant planet.
"Elemis, our featured spa-therapy skincare line, uses medicinal grade marine and plant extracts. Earth Day Network's Canopy Project plants millions of trees in areas of the world most in need of reforestation. In many cases reforestation takes places in regions that have been damaged by forest fire, flood or stripped bare of trees by logging. The Canopy Project hand-selects tree planting locations that do not just heal the planet, but also help strengthen communities, restoring lands and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities throughout the world.

From Nov. 19-25, every Celebrity Cruises guest who books any 50-minute face or body treatment will be responsible for the planting of one tree through the Canopy Project. The Onboard Spa by Steiner has guaranteed to plant up to 10,000 trees ($10,000). Limited to one tree per guest.
