BDI - BioEnergy International AG: difficult market environment depresses
earnings
(Grambach, 13.11.2012) BDI - BioEnergy International AG, the prominent
technology supplier and specialised plant manufacturer in the waste to
energy field, is reporting an operating result - EBIT - before
extraordinary items of -EUR 1.5 million (previous year: EUR 3.2 million)
and a reduction in sales of 30% to EUR 19.1 million for the first nine
months of the 2012 fiscal year. The loss is essentially attributable to
project delays that led to lower sales.
Due to the difficult market situation and the poorer sales and earnings
development than planned in the BioGas segment, BDI made extraordinary
goodwill write-downs (that have no effect on cash flow) totalling EUR 3.0
million. In spite of positive financial earnings and income from
investments, this led to period earnings of -EUR 3.3 million in the first
nine months of the fiscal year (previous year: EUR 2.6 million).
Besides restructuring exercises, the Management Board will further
strengthen the strategic realignment programme in order to reduce the costs
and to guarantee a sound future for the company. In addition the portfolio
of BDI as a leading specialized plant manufacturer in the BioDiesel and
BioGas industry to being a full service provider of innovative industrial
Greentech-solutions will be expanded.
The Management Board continues to work on the basis of positive earnings
before extraordinary items in 2012 as a whole, but cannot rule out the
possibility of an operating loss instead. With its innovative technologies,
BDI should succeed in returning to profit as of 2013 when the restructuring
exercise has been implemented effectively.
