AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin is congratulating veterinarian Dr. Scott Johnson on his election to president of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS). Dr. Johnson will first serve as president-elect for two years, before assuming the full responsibilities of presidency for the subsequent two years. VECCS is an internationally-recognized society dedicated to the advancement of veterinary emergency and critical care. Dr. Johnson joined the Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin in 1987; he purchased the hospital in 1990 and has managed it for the last 22 years.
Austin veterinarian Dr. Scott Johnson has been elected president of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS). Dr. Johnson is also an emergency veterinarian with the Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin (EAHNWA). He opened the practice's south location in 1997 and currently serves as the hospital's Chief of Staff.

A graduate of Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine and a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary and Critical Care, Dr. Johnson has served as an EAHNWA emergency veterinarian since 1987. In 1991, Dr. Johnson became owner and Chief of Staff, a position he continues to hold today.

Dr. Johnson is a member of AVMA, TVMA and VECCS. He is the co-founder and president of the Texas Animal Blood Bank. He is also a member of the Association of Veterinary Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, American Association of Blood Banks, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
"A veterinary emergency, such as a traumatic injury or accidental poisoning, can be a stressful and frightening time for any pet owner," said Dr. Johnson.
