Intel Demos Collaborative Chat Application at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Personify, a top developer of immersive telepresence software, announced today the release of Personify Chat, a two-way video chat tool designed for consumer and enterprise use. Executives from Intel demonstrated the product on stage at Intel's Press Briefing at the 2013 International CES on Jan. 7 in Las Vegas.

Personify Chat uses a depth-sensing camera to extract live video of each chat participant from his or her environment and overlay the feed of both users onto any digital background or application, such as an Internet browser. The tool takes users out of their environment and inserts them directly into the conversation, letting chat participants minimize distractions and focus on the interaction.

Developed for use in both everyday and business settings, Personify Chat allows users to collaborate more effectively using both text and video, whether finalizing a sales presentation, strategizing a fantasy football draft or planning a vacation.

Users can share screens to collaborate on projects and share information while still viewing the other chat participant. Personify Chat personalizes messaging by sharing visual cues such as facial expressions and body language, giving the users honest and emotional input.

"Personify Chat is an innovative, interactive platform that promotes greater engagement and personal interaction in a virtual chat environment," said Dr. Sanjay Patel, cofounder and CEO of Personify. "By filtering out unnecessary background distractions and focusing user attention, Personify Chat reinvents video collaboration, making it more engaging and effective."

Personify Chat builds on the company's flagship product, Personify Live, a Web conferencing application created for business-to-business sales and marketing teams that uses a depth-sensing camera to extract a presenter from his or her surroundings and create a virtual green screen experience. Both Personify Chat and the Live tool are pioneering a new generation of technology known as perceptual computing.

"Personify Chat is a great example of a perceptual computing initiative that could change the video conferencing and collaboration experience," said Anil Nanduri, Director of Solutions, Perceptual Computing Group at Intel.

Personify Chat will join the Live tool in Personify's suite of video communications solutions for business.

The Intel team demonstrated Personify Chat during Intel's Press Briefing event Monday, held at 1 p.m. Pacific time in the Mandalay Bay Ballroom I in Las Vegas.
