MARIMEKKO SHOWS AT THE STOCKHOLM FASHION WEEK ON 28 JANUARY 2013

Marimekko Corporation, Press release 16 January 2013 at 9:00 AM

Marimekko brings its unique design point of view to the top fashion week of Scandinavia. The Finnish fashion and design house shows the autumn/winter 2013 fashion collection “Art of Print Making – Colour for a Season”, led by Head of Fashion Design Noora Niinikoski, to the local and international media and industry professionals at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week of Stockholm on Monday 28 January.

Marimekko aims to become one of the world’s most fascinating fashion and design brands. As continuation to the previous presentations in conjunction with the fashion weeks of New York in September 2012 and Tokyo in October 2011, Marimekko shows this time in the capital of Nordic fashion, Stockholm. Scandinavia is one of the company’s key market areas, almost like an extension to the home market of the Finnish fashion and design house. With this show, Marimekko will also support the existing 12 stores in Sweden, Norway and Denmark as well as the expansion in retailing in Sweden this coming spring: the company already has e-commerce in the United States and Finland and next the online expansion takes place in Sweden. In addition, the sixth Marimekko store in Sweden opens in one of the country’s biggest shopping malls, Täby Centrum close to Stockholm.

“I am super excited to show our distinctive fashion, stemming from bold colours and patterns, on the top catwalk of Scandinavia. The Marimekko autumn/winter 2013 collection “Art of Print Making – Colour for a Season” reflects seasonal changes of the surrounding world.  Autumnal weather patterns reveal aspects of intriguing beauty: highlights of colour against a grey background. Our design team was inspired by the clean geometry of the 1920s and 1930s art and its similarity with primitive folk art, and exuberant autumnal gardens. The designs, combining calm tones and vibrant accent colours, reflect a contemporary interpretation of Marimekko’s core – the art of print making”, says Noora Niinikoski, Marimekko’s Head of Fashion Design.

Marimekko’s autumn/winter 2013 fashion show takes place at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Pavilion in Kungsträdgården park in central Stockholm on Monday 28 January at 1:00 PM.
