WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees Roy Foreman and Omar Thompson received top awards at the annual Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) STEM Global Competitiveness Conference held Feb. 7-9 in Washington, D.C. BEYA acknowledges excellence in accomplishments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. An additional 25 Northrop Grumman employees were recognized as BEYA Modern-Day Technology Leaders at the conference.

The employees were recognized for their dedication to community service, educational leadership and outstanding technical contribution, among other contributions.
Roy Foreman received an Industry Professional Achievement award for his significant achievements in the field of engineering. Foreman is an electrical engineering manager in Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector. He has designed and developed electrical systems for key programs supporting Northrop Grumman's Department of Defense customers, created a mentoring program for new minority engineers at Northrop Grumman and helped establish an intern program with Alabama A&M University, his alma matter. Foreman earned a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from Alabama A&M. He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Engineer of the Year Award from the National Society of Black Engineers.
Omar Thompson, recipient of a Special Recognition award, is a senior reliability engineer for Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. Thompson has provided reliability engineering for NASA's Space Shuttle program, and at Northrop Grumman has helped improve field reliability for U.S. government and NATO customers, saving more than $100 million. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology, master's degrees in industrial engineering and modeling and simulation, and a doctorate in modeling and simulation from the University of Central Florida.
