Hands-On Labs Introduces the Next Generation in Science Education

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Feb. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hands-On Labs (HOL), the distance learning pioneer that revolutionized the migration of online science education, is excited to announce the next generation of distance education digital courseware: LabBridge Solutions.

An initiative of this magnitude required the staffing addition of exceptional scientist and instructor, Dr. Barbekka Hurtt, Director of Research and Development. Dr. Hurtt has been tasked with leading the R&D team in the development of current and future laboratory experiences, including integrating new experiments, techniques, technologies, pedagogy, and assessment opportunities within the laboratory experience to better meet current and future student and instructor educational goals and outcomes. She is a proven leader in academic and business settings with strategic design, development, and management experience in bringing high-value education and assessment products to market for higher education STEM disciplines. She has also been critical in developing the partnership with a highly qualified science education company that has incorporated digital courseware into our science solutions.

"It has always been my goal to positively impact and change the higher education science space and help students relate the science they learn to what happens in their lives. I fundamentally believe that education is one way we can make science more personal and more real. With the ability for students to engage in exceptional scientific laboratory experiences in a distance learning environment through LabBridge Solutions, students now have the opportunity to learn and apply science almost anywhere. I am excited to be part of the Hands-On Labs team in providing a world-class educational experience to students anywhere, at any time."

This new technology is an important part of the overall direction and vision of HOL. "The introduction of LabBridge is truly the next generation of distance learning," states Kevin Melendy, President. "We believe this product creates a bridge between classroom instruction and the geographic dispersed student body." HOL partners with institutions to expand enrollment without increasing costs, meet accreditation requirements, and improve degree completion rates. As industry leaders, they work with institutions to jointly identify barriers and provide guidance and support to help educators effectively implement online science programs. By utilizing technology, HOL will increase learning opportunities for students, inspire and excite educators, and expand the learning horizon beyond the campus. Look forward to upcoming announcements on our new partnership, digital courseware, and improved science solutions.
