Distinguished Leader in Special Education Award Presented

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Feb. 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nanci Bell, CEO of Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, received the Distinguished Leader in Special Education Award at the Third New York Citywide Special Education Conference, at Hunter College in New York City on January 26, 2013. The award is given by Education Update newspaper in collaboration with several other organizations in the New York area, including the Child Mind Institute, the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity, and Columbia University.

"We believe, passionately, that children and adults can be taught to read and comprehend language," said Ms. Bell. "We also believe that the first domino in the chain of events that leads to competency in language and literacy skills, is the sensory-cognitive function of imagery."

Ms. Bell and Patricia Lindamood founded Lindamood-Bell in 1986, and today there are 50 Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers across the US, UK, and Australia. Lindamood-Bell also partners with schools nationally and internationally to teach educators how to use Lindamood-Bell research-validated programs and processes to provide literacy development for students. Ms. Bell researched and developed some of the key programs that have gained the organization its reputation as a source for real solutions for individuals with learning challenges.
